The bottom line is that you aren’t going to be able to survive any longer than a few hours in the World of Warcraft without a stockpile of gold behind you – regardless of what you may have been led to believe to be true.
The honest truth is that gold (and the overall World of Warcraft economy) as such a tremendous impact on nearly everything in this game that without a steady supply of gold – and knowledge and ability to take advantage of that steady supply – you aren’t going to be able to have nearly as much fun as you would have been able to with it.
This is nonnegotiable, and might not be a pretty aspect of the game – but that’s reality for you, and unless you’re ready to spend hours and hours of your time grinding away, hoping to uncover a few gold pieces here and there you’re going to want to pay close attention to the details below.
Gold can buy you…
When you have enough gold, you are going to be able to immediately improve your overall lifestyle in the World of Warcraft.
You are going to be able to purchase new weapons and equipment, repair and upgrade weapons and equipment, level up in record time, and lockup investments that allow you to make more money later down the line.
Without gold, you are really going to struggle.
Repairs on all of your weapons, armor, and equipment
As you do battle in the World of Warcraft (either PVP or PVM, it makes no difference) you are going to take damage and all of your weapons, armor, and equipment are going to be negatively impacted.
Unless you like to live very (VERY) dangerously with weapons and gear that may fail you at any point in time “out in the wild”, you are going to need to repair and upgrade your kit whenever you get the opportunity to do so.
Having enough gold in your back pocket is going to allow you to do this without any headache or hassle whatsoever.
Consumables that you can use offensively and defensively
Obviously, as you progress throughout this game you’re going to come across different obstacles and challenges that you will not be able to beat all on your own.
Though many of these obstacles require you to team up with other players to conquer, some of them can be tackled just by upgrading your “consumables” and then using them wisely in an offensive or defensive way.
Without gold, you’ll never be able to get your hands on that equipment and those consumables that will put you over your challenges and into higher levels.
The ability to purchase items and bulk supplies that you can flip for a pretty profit later down the line
Finally, having a bit of gold in your back pocket or stockpiled in your bank account is going to be beneficial when you come across “endgame” style content or loot that you want to buy as an investment.
Pay attention to the items that are selling regularly on the Auction House (or items that sell for record amounts) and then do whatever you can to purchase those items ingame as a “gold investment” for your World of Warcraft future.
